ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY ONE YEARS AGO a group of local philanthropic women came together to change the way children and infants were cared for at Bridgeport Hospital. Their very first project created a space where children would be separate from adults upon admittance to the Hospital.

Starting with 9 beds, 3 cradles and some donated furnishings the “Womens Staff for Children’s Ward of Bridgeport Hospital” formed a strong support for the youngest population of the Hospital. During the years their philanthrophy spread beyond the new childrens wing in support of the children throughout the hospital.

Today, under the name of “Bridgeport Hospital Friends of Pediatrics” their work continues to benefit hundreds of young patients. Through the grant process they have given over 1 million dollars over the past 10 years for equipment, facilities, programs and staffing.
